The New Birth: Born of God

The concept of the new birth, born of God, or born again, is a fundamental truth in Christianity. It marks the beginning of the Christian life for every believer in Christ. It’s absolute necessity as a precondition for anyone to enter the Kingdom of God was plainly affirmed by Jesus Christ when He said to Nicodemus: “Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). 

However, the new birth is a profound truth which is too often skimmed over by Christians. Many professing Christians, not taking time to understand the true Scriptural meaning of the new birth, perceive it as some form of human psychological change or sociological rehabilitation. Yet, when examined closely according to its Scriptural description, the radical change the new birth is meant to produce in a Christian believer is astonishing.

We will examine the Scriptural concept of the new birth under two main headings: the process involved in the new birth and the outcome or produce of the new birth. In order to focus on the supernatural element of the new birth, we entitle the two-part series of this study, Born of God.
