A New Life and Healed of AIDS

My name is Margaret Marabe. I am twenty-nine years old and live in East Boroko, Papua New Guinea.

In 1991 I was married and soon a son was born to me. We lived in Lae then but in 1997 we moved down to port Moresby. It was then that my husband deserted me and our son. Life was very hard for the next three years.

Then my husband returned to us and it was some months after that I found out that he had been living with another woman. This woman has since died from AIDS and I believe it was she who infected my husband who passed it on to me.

I was very scared. I visited the hospital for testing and found out that my blood was HIV positive. Then we had many arguments and our marriage began to breakdown. One day my husband ran away with our son and it was many months before I found out where they were.

My heart was breaking with pain for my lost son and the rejection of my husband. As my body became sicker the community I was living in would no longer allow me to fetch water from the community water tap. My life was very difficult and everyone rejected me, except my Christian sister and my mother.

My husband died of AIDS and I was very frightened. I lost my job as a shop assistant when someone told my employer that I was an AIDS person. As I got sicker, I could hardly walk and I knew I was dying.

My sister took me to her church and I heard the message that Jesus Christ died to give me life and that He loved me. I knew in my heart it was true and came forward to give my life to Him. I received prayer for my sickness and Jesus healed me. All my sores and pain disappeared and I received new strength and much joy. I have since had my blood tested again and the report was that there is no HIV infection in my blood at all.

I thank God with all my heart for this new life and I love to tell anyone who will listen to me that Jesus is all they need. I have since found work with the PNG National AIDS council who let me testify freely of all that has happened to me. I have been into many schools sharing the Good News. The attitude of my community has changed towards me and the Elders in my settlement have chosen me to be on the Law Enforcement Committee of the community.

I know that Jesus has healed me to be a witness of His great Salvation and my heart finds great reward in speaking of Him. What joy to know Jesus loves me and calls me His own dear child. I look forward to the day I can thank Him face to face.
